The 2019 work season in my area is strictly Integrity Maintenance work. The big projects are still fighting for permits. The Enbridge Line 3 and the TransCanada Keystone XL are still alive for construction for the near future. Companies such as Enbridge and TransCanada that bring fossil fuel energy into America from our Canadian allies are the main targets for environmental groups that fight fossil fuel energy. Most of these well-funded groups are very well organized, and most of their representatives I see at the public meetings don’t even know that this country has used Canadian crude for the last 50 to 60 years.
As of March 31, 2019, Local 798 had 6,549 active members and 1,492 retired members, that’s a little over 8,000 members. We currently only have 58% of the membership taking action by using the Action Network to sign petitions and send letters to the government agencies and politicians that take your jobs away from you and your family by stopping permits on these big projects. The members are stepping up and doing a great job, but we need every member and every family member on board because the opposition has 100% participation and are very passionate against our industry. It’s easy to do once you get registered with the Action Network. All you have to do when you get the email or text is to push three buttons. Read the message, push the “take action” button, then push the autofill button. And last, push the signature button, and you’re done. If you don’t want to take the time to do this to fight for your future job, you must not need a job.
Please get involved; your future job does depend on it. United We Stand, Divided We Fall.
