Brothers and Sisters, hopefully by the time you read this report, some of the bigger jobs in my jurisdiction will be starting to man up. The 36-inch in Colorado should be in full swing sometime in July. Our new contractor, Q&D Construction, is also making headway and has been successful in securing work in Nevada for NV Energy. They have also been looking at work in Colorado and Wyoming. As I wrote in my last report, these smaller contractors are crucial in securing the market of small diameter pipeline and maintenance work. A lot of my work this year has been maintenance and integrity work, a 10% cut seems like a lot, but when you are not taxed as much, the money difference isn’t substantial.
Briefly, I would like to touch on the Market Recovery Strategy. The Hanging H jobs in Colorado fall under that, and I believe there is a good chance I may start seeing more jobs that may be candidates for Market Recovery. Williams has several projects in Colorado that we have not been able to compete on, and I hope that we can edge our way back in and show the gas companies what we are capable of doing. Right now, we do not have control of the market out west, like in other areas of the country. The idea is for our contractors to get in, do a great job, and have a better chance of securing more work. Once we have some kind of stronghold in an area, I hope to see the wages come back up. Everyone must be vigilant in showing what 798 has to offer these gas companies. We cannot expect to make more money and not be the best in the industry.
In closing, I have still been diligent in the organizing department. If you see something that needs to be addressed in my area or know someone working for a non-union contractor that may be able to help sign them, don’t hesitate to call me.
